March Movie Madness: Fin

Maximilian Rivera April 17, 2017
It is with great pleasure that we announce today the WINNER of The Critical Breakdown’s March Movie Madness competition:

CHAMPION: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

It looks like all that training finally paid off. Episode V had virtually no struggles along the way, defeating The Thing, Full Metal Jacket, The Breakfast Club, Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Inception, and The Dark Knight along the way, with none of the votes being particularly close.

A few facts here first: Over 10,000 votes were cast since the bracket voting began on March 6th. Thank you all so much for your participation here; we may have set up the framework, but the whole idea relies on the support of our fans and readers and listeners, so bravo to you all for that.

Even with such a great turnout, some of the matchups were extremely close. Four matchups were decided by just one vote:

  • First Round

    • #11 No Country for Old Men defeats #6 Lord of the Rings: Return of the King by 1 vote
    • #11 Full Metal Jacket defeats #6 E.T.: Extra-Terrestrial by 1 vote
  • Second Round

    • #11 Spotlight defeats #14 12 Years a Slave by 1 vote
  • Sweet Sixteen

    • #2 Saving Private Ryan defeats #3 Toy Story by 1 vote

If anything this just shows how difficult it is to pick between your favorite movies, but it all worked out in the end!

Just because this event has ended, doesn’t mean that your time at The Critical Breakdown should end too! Every week Max and I post a new podcast episode; find those here on the blog or on iTunes or any other podcatcher you frequent.

Max and I also have big plans for more writing on the blog; movie reviews of classic films and the newest releases, editorials about the industry, and more.
