Episode 009: Our X-Men X-Travaganza

Maximilian Rivera May 24, 2016

Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It’s also the key to this episode, because we’re discussing the X-Men film franchise this week!

That’s right, we’ll be covering X-Men, X2, X-Men 3, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: First Class, The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Deadpool, and X-Men Apocalypse.

We are joined by a special guest: Taylor Phillips. Taylor is one of those guys who has read almost every X book out there, and if he hasn’t, probably knows about it anyway.

We also cover the future of the X-Men film franchise, including New Mutants, Wolverine 3 (Old Man Logan?), and Deadpool 2.  We round out the episode by discussing what we’d like to see from the franchise, if the films could mesh with the MCU, and the cartoon legacy of mutants, as well.

As a whole, we agree that X2 and X-Men: First Class might be our favorites. But with Deadpool, The Wolverine, and X-Men: Days of Future Past, there are plenty of great mutant moments.

At the core of the series is the fact the X-Men series tells a compelling story of otherness and adaptation.

But their writers have always been willing to dip into the outlandish – with plots including the prehistoric Savage Land and the out of this world Mojoverse.

When you get right down to it, there’s so much untapped potential with the X-Men series. Even with the handful of great films, we can go so much further.

Studios — let’s do that. Give us an X-property for every type of media.
